Medical schools actually each have different entry requirements! Yes, they generally do require top notch grades, as Medicine is notoriously an intellectually demanding and rigorous course; however, you might be surprised to learn that some schools don’t have any specific GCSE requirements, others may accept a degree in place of high A Level grades, and for some, simply having a good performance in the medical school entrance test reads ‘Open Sesame!’ to admissions.😱So don’t be disheartened by one school’s seemingly high grade requirements, nor should you feel defeated if you didn’t achieve your desired score in an exam. Instead, take the time to thoroughly explore the various medical schools to discover where your application can shine!

We’ve made a note of the teaching style of each medical school, to help you choose where you want to go, and so you’ll be able to talk about this in interview if asked what you know abouy the school & why you’d like to study there.

The Personal Statement is not just a formality; it’s the heart of your application.🫀When crafting your Personal Statement, keep it authentic and allow your personality to shine through. Think of it as your direct line to admissions! It’s your chance to tell them the experiences that ignited your interest, and which showcase the traits that make you a good candidate. But even more importantly, some schools literally tell you what they need you to tell them in your statement, so you’ve gotta check their requirements. See our page on Personal Statements for more!

Interviews are mostly in the form of MMIs (Multiple Mini Interviews) or Panel interviews.
Be sure to formulate thoughtful responses that highlight your commitment to Medicine and demonstrate your suitability, to the common interview questions, such as ‘Why Medicine?’ and ‘What qualities make a good doctor?’
Be genuine and let your personality shine. Remember, they want to get to know you, not a rehearsed version of someone you think they want.
Be aware of current issues in healthcare like ethical dilemmas in medicine. This will show you’re not just a bookworm but also a well-rounded candidate who is aware of the broader context of healthcare.
Practise, Practise, Practise. Not only will you get your answering questions like these figured out, but it’ll also help ease those pesky nerves. And feedback is the breakfast of champions!🍽️

So, you didn’t receive those magic words, “Congratulations, you’ve been accepted!” But there’s no need to throw in the stethoscope just yet; it's time to unleash your inner phoenix, and step by step, rise from these ashes!🐦🔥
First things first: allow yourself to be upset; cry, vent, eat an entire tub of ice cream while binge-watching your favourite series. And after acknowledging the disappointment, take a deep breath; inhale optimism and exhale negativity!
Then, grab a cup of tea and revisit your application. What went well? What could have been better? And be honest with yourself. Reflection is how you ensure you’ve actually learnt from an experience.
Now, Einstein said doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity. So we need to reapply strategically. Yes, we. Some of the best friendships are forged in the fires of struggle, and Getinology was inspired by the friends who helped us in the very position you’re in now! Subscribe for our guide to each part of the application process.
